The Fairtrade Foundation was set up in 1992 and is the UK member of Fairtrade International. Fairtrade is a product certification scheme that promotes better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in developing countries.
Fairtrade enables producers to invest in their businesses, improve their communities and plan for the future and offers consumers a powerful way to reduce poverty through purchasing products carrying the FAIRTRADE Mark. There are now 827 Fairtrade Certified producer organisations in 58 developing countries, including 231 in Africa.
