The ASFG is an informal network. It is led by a Coordinator, whose role is to provide direction, represent the group in any public meetings (along with other members), organise meetings and coordinate group level activities. This role rotates between group members on an annual basis. The group meets on a quarterly basis, in March, June, September and December.
The ASFG also has four Working Groups, which bring together sub-sets of members to focus on the following issues: (1) Advocacy; (2) Agricultural Extension; (3) The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD)’s Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP); and (4) Farmer as Entrepreneurs. These groups meet on an ad hoc basis to share learning and plan joint activities.
